The Gloucester Preschool is currently accepting applications for
the 2014-2015 school year. The program provides developmentally appropriate early
childhood education services and support for three and four year old children
and their families. The preschool serves a diverse population of children with
a wide range of abilities, needs and backgrounds, within a safe and nurturing
environment that builds on the strengths of each child.
Gloucester provides integrated classrooms in which children that
have been identified as having special needs learn along side typically
developing peers. The program follows a typical preschool curriculum and makes
adaptations for the individual needs of all the children. Intensive classrooms are for 3 and 4 year old children with
significant special needs. This is a self-contained program with a low
student-teacher ratio. Class sizes are small with a maximum of fifteen students in each
class. There is a licensed teacher and one or two highly qualified assistants
in each of the classrooms.
Gloucester Preschool classes are Monday-Thursday. The integrated
classrooms have two sessions each. The morning session runs 8:30-11:00 and the
afternoon session runs 12:00-2:30. There is an optional Lunch Bunch session
from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. that allows families to extend a child’s preschool day
by one hour. Self contained classrooms
run 8:30-1:30. The Preschool follows the same school calendar as the Gloucester
Public Schools.
